seems to be really easy, and a few more features than expected.

  For example, we have a calendar function, and I added the May meeting to it.

  And, we have a private messaging function that seems way too easy to use.

I like that you can 'subscribe' to a thread and get an email when someone replies. However subscribing to a forum doesn't seem to work.

Yeah, this is something I have noticed as well. I assume either a missing dependency or myBB isn't configured for it properly.

There doesn't seem to be any configuration for the email.
